Modica Alta is the higher part of the centro storico. For the Modicani, it begins at San Giorgio, but in reality it stretches from Santa Teresa up to the Palasport and beyond. For most buyers from outside Modica, the choice area is that around Santa Teresa and the Palazzo Failla hotel, or by the Belvedere and the Church of San Giovanni. Modica Alta is primarily a residential area, though has good bars and restaurants. Its a 15 minutes walk down to Modica Bassa, using the characteristic staircases which create shortcuts. It has a different feel to Modica Bassa, with panoramic views from seemingly every window. Baroque palazzi jostle for space with little workers cottages.
